Florida Keys runners get a head start registering for the 34th annual Seven Mile Bridge Run, which takes place April 18 in the Middle Keys.
Keys residents who have a photo ID with a Keys address are allowed to register on Feb. 12 at 6 a.m. Atlantic time. Registration opens to the general public on Feb. 17, also at 6 a.m. Applications are accepted online only (www.7mbrun.com).
The run is limited to 1,500 runners. The field fills in minutes.
The Seven Mile Bridge Run is the only known foot race to be over water from start to finish. The event began in 1982 as a dedication run when the then-new Seven Mile Bridge opened. With the help of more than 400 volunteers, more than $500,000 has been raised and distributed to Middle Keys athletic programs.
