September – Things to Do in the Upper Keys

With Fall soon approaching, Thursday, September 22, things are changing in the Florida Keys. September 5th is Labor Day so from Sept. 2 to 5 it the Florida Keys will be hopping with the last big holiday weekend of the Summer. Islamorada Beer Company will be hosting the 3rd Annual Sandbar Cleanup at Postcard Inn MM84(O) along with Bamboo Charters! 9AM meet at the Post Card Inn Tiki Bar and the Islamorada Beer Company Barge will pick you up and take you to the sandbar. Morada Way Arts & Cultural District presents – Third Thursday Artwalk
Showcasing the fine arts, music and culinary nuances of the Purple Isles, the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District features national and local artisans who are showcased in galleries at Morada Way between mile marker 81 and 82 – formerly named Industrial Road – as well as “culinary art” and live music from 6-9 p.m. Free admission. Art Walk is held the third Thursday of each month.

Alligator Reef Lighthouse Swim

Swim for Alligator Lighthouse
The Swim for Alligator Lighthouse is presented by Friends of the Pool, Inc. and is a 9 mile open water swim challenge. The Swim brings awareness to treasured historic lighthouses on Florida’s coastal waterways. Net proceeds fund scholarships for graduating seniors and other aquatic programs.

Full Moon Party at Morada Bay Beach Cafe
After 9:00 pm, a live band plays in the center of the beach, while DJs maintain the dance & party vibe at both the Café and the Green Flash Lounge at Pierres. In addition, any number of other performers may join the Party throughout the evening: Brazilian Capoeira dancers, Bahamian Junkanoo Parade, a circus thru the beach (stilt walkers, fireblowers, acrobats, etc.), face painters, balloon artists, fireworks, & A $20.00 cover charge applies to all Morada Bay guests. Pierres Restaurant and the Green Flash Lounge are VIP access with a cover charge of $30.00. The cover charge allows access into the party to enjoy the festivities. All food & beverage are additional.

International Coastal Cleanup 2016
The Florida Keys Scenic Corridor Alliance is once again coordinating with the International Coastal Cleanup to strive to have the Florida Keys Adopt a Highway groups all schedule a cleanup for Saturday, September 17, when the International Coastal Cleanup is taking place all over the world. Volunteers will be cleaning our roadside and coastline from MM 100 to MM 0. Sign up to clean up!

Conch Scramble – Par-Tee On The Water Kickoff Party
6:00PM – 10:00PM Kickoff Party, Generously Donated by Patti Stanley…Sea Ranch, Oceanside, Islamorada, mile marker 83. The Conch Scramble is a one of a kind golf experience that people look forward to each year. There are no green’s fees, golf carts, or sand traps. Each foursome travels by boat from tee to tee, with a designated driver/caddie. Boats are docked and golfers come ashore. Each player gets two shots at the ‘floating targets, from each tee venue. The golf balls are biodegradable. They turn into fish food after 90 hours. After playing nine holes, the teams celebrate at The Ocean View Pub & Inn, with an awards ceremony, food, and fun. The kick off party is Friday, September 23, 2016 with food, drinks, entertainment, and live and silent auctions. Tickets are required for admission for non-players and are $35. The Tournament begins on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 8:30AM at the Islamorada Fish Company. The Awards Ceremony is from 3:30PM – 4:30PM at Ocean View Inn & Sports Pub. 2016 BENEFICIARIES ARE CHOSEN! Treasure Village Montessori School & Coral Shores Football Booster Club. Not only do they have these beneficiaries, they were also able to hand out mini grants…The Long Walk Home, Everglades Science Center & Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition are these recipients!
