WHO: Mark Sorensen Youth Sailing Program is a 501(c)(3) Florida non profit organization dedicated to promoting youth sailing as a safe, fun and competitive sport. It is the only sailing program that provides year round instruction and Summer Camp to kids and teens in the Upper Keys and South Dade areas. MSYSP was founded in 2006.
WHERE: Upper Keys Sailing Club,100 N Ocean Bay Drive @ MM 100 in Key Largo, Florida. Our 40 year-old club has beach access to beautiful Buttonwood Sound on the bayside.
AGES: Perfect for kids ages 7 through 17. All campers must be able to swim and follow basic instructions.
ACTIVITIES: A LOT of sailing, beach swimming and snorkeling, shoreline kayaking and paddling, short trips to nearby islands at Everglades National Park and tubing.
CAMP SIZE: Between 10-15 kids per week.
SESSIONS: Sessions are one week only, but many campers sign up for multiple weeks. FULL DAYS only. No half days! All campers MUST begin the session on Mondays – NO EXCEPTIONS.
CAMP HOURS: 9am to 3pm. Drop off begins at 8:30am and pick up no later than 3:30pm. Camp activities begin promptly at 9am Monday through Friday.
LUNCH: Please pack your kids a hearty lunch and plenty of snacks! They can keep their lunches in our club fridge. CAMPERS MUST BRING THEIR OWN REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE!! NO PLASTIC WATER/BEVERAGE BOTTLES, SODA CANS OR CUPS ALLOWED.
FACILITIES: Two covered showers by the sail loft, two bathrooms inside the clubhouse, beachside shower and hose, clubhouse and patio area, a sail hut where all boat equipment is stored.
STAFF: Our head and assistant coaches are US Sailing Certified instructors. Our camp counselors are experienced sailors from our racing teams.
SAILING: Kids will initially learn to sail near shore and will always be accompanied by coaches on motorized inflatable boats or together with a counselor on the same boat when needed.
COST: $265 per child per week.
