GardenFest to Bloom March 5 at Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden

Nature lovers can explore the 15-acre Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden and acquire native and exotic plants Saturday, March 5, during “GardenFest Key West: The Green Market Place 2022.”

The event is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the garden, a rare and protected habitat located at 5210 College Road. Established some 85 years ago, it is now acclaimed as the only frost-free subtropical moist forest and garden in the continental United States.

Visitors can view and purchase tropical and native plants — many propagated at the garden — as well as earth-friendly or nature-themed arts and crafts during the festival. In addition, they can glean information about Florida Keys plants from the garden’s knowledgeable volunteers.

A highlight of the free-admission GardenFest is the chance to discover and learn about the garden during docent-led guided tours. The property shelters many threatened and endangered species of both flora and fauna, showcasing plant life native to South Florida, Cuba and the Caribbean.

Other attractions are to include educational presentations, food and beverages for purchase, activities for kids, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.

GardenFest is an annual fundraiser for the botanical garden. Rich in biodiversity, the property features two wetland habitats, national and state champion trees, two butterfly gardens, seasonal flowers and many other attractions for nature enthusiasts to explore.
