Postcard Inn Beach Resort and Marina Hotel Review, Islamorada

Islamorada Postcard Inn at Holiday Isle

Postcard Inn9 out of 10 Telegraph expert rating

Playing up the retro charm of a 1950s beach vacation, Postcard Inn Beach Resort & Marina at Holiday Isle is a stylish, all-encompassing retreat in Islamorada boasting a full service marina, private beach, lagoon-style pool and popular Tiki bar.

Location 10 / 10

Postcard Inn is located at mile marker 84, midway between Key West and Miami, making it about an-hour-and-a-half drive from either destination. Islamorada has a reputation as one of the more upscale Keys thanks to its fine dining restaurants and long list of celebrities who flock there for world class sportfishing. Postcard Inn is a destination unto itself, especially with its marina for fishing charters, but it’s also an easy drive to all of the attractions of the Upper Keys.

Style & character 9 / 10

With guestrooms and suites spread across multiple buildings, the resort is just as much about the ambiance outside as it is inside. There’s a kitschy, tropical vibe as guests make their way from their rooms to the lagoon-style pool or Tiki bar. While the exterior façade resembles an old motel, the interiors are beautifully remodeled and decorated to suit the sensibilities of modern travellers, while retaining a specific Keys aesthetic in bright colors, white-washed wood and clean lines.

Service & facilities 9 / 10

Service is friendly and unobtrusive with a member of staff to orient you to the property. It’s an ideal getaway for families, couples or groups of friends with a variety of facilities to please every type of traveller. From the beach to the pool, to fishing charters or partying late night at the Tiki bar, Postcard Inn has created a resort where fun comes naturally. Paddleboards, snorkel gear and kayaks are included in the resort fee.

Rooms 9 / 10

Rooms are surprisingly upscale with a charming boathouse design awash in natural wood, neutral tones and pops of aqua. With faux fish mounted above the beds and quotes by famous authors, like Ernest Hemingway, stenciled on the walls, rooms are playful, comfortable and create a true sense of place. Many boast balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or the marina. Bathrooms are modern and spacious. All rooms are equipped with coffee/tea makers.

Food & drink 7 / 10

Ciao Hound is the newest dining outlet at Postcard Inn located inside a free-standing building facing the Overseas Highway. The vibe is casual, but the fare is sophisticated, blending Tuscan recipes with freshly caught fish, like the pan-seared Key West pink shrimp with polenta or the grilled mahi-mahi puttanesca. For a casual lunchtime bite with items like fish tacos, raw oysters and fried fish sandwiches, Raw Bar is found beneath a palapa by the pool. Breakfast is also served here with items ranging from pancakes to omelettes, from $10 (£8). Tiki Bar, near the marina is the place to grab a pre-dinner cocktail. Unlike similar bars in the Keys that grow sleepy after sunset, the atmosphere stays lively well into the wee hours with live music or a DJ.
