National Key Deer Refuge Offering Free Guided Nature Excursions

The Florida Keys Wildlife Society, a friends group for the Florida Keys National Wildlife Refuges Complex and the National Key Deer Refuge, kicks off this season’s full moon kayak excursions Monday, Jan. 29, departing at 4 p.m. from Big Pine Kayak Adventures on Bogey Road. The two-hour paddle traverses through the National Key Deer Refuge. “Kayaking in the refuge is a fantastic way to experience nature,” Florida Keys Wildlife Society board member Nancy Chatelaine said.

The society, formerly known as FAVOR or Friends and Volunteers of Refuges, is a nonprofit whose mission is to support the federal wildlife refuges of the Florida Keys through education, advocacy, volunteerism and fundraising.

The monthly kayak excursions, which are led by an experienced guide, include the use of a kayak and gear. A $25 donation to the Florida Keys Wildlife Society is requested.
