Key West Duval Loop Downtown FREE Circulator Bus

Duval Loop will suspend operations  as of  Tuesday March 17 due to COVID-19.

Duval Loop UPDATE: There is a new route Map at the bottom of this post. Due to the overwhelming success of the Duval Loop, the free bus route will continue to run seven days a week. When it was launched, it was expected to go back to weekends only after Easter. However, the Loop is popular all week long.

This free hop-on-hop-off bus service runs from the City’s Park and Ride on Grinnell Street, along Caroline Street, up the length of Whitehead, then returns down the length of Simonton to Fleming. Funded by last year’s one-dollar increase in parking meter rates, the Duval Loop provides free and easy access to restaurants, galleries, gift shops and theatres. Just park once and forget it.

The Duval Loop makes 16 stops along the way and runs every half hour in the mornings — from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. — and it runs every 15 minutes from 11 a.m. until midnight. For a detailed schedule or to track the Duval Loop bus in real time, go to www.kwtransit.com

The 16-stop free bus designed to eliminate cars and ease congestion in the heart of Key West’s entertainment district has enough drivers and is solely waiting for promotional materials, according to Sustainability Coordinator Alison Higgins. New details about the service were unveiled at Thursday’s Key West Lodging Association Luncheon during a presentation by Higgins, Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Chris Hamilton and Parking Director John Wilkins. The L-shaped route will mostly operate on Simonton and Whitehead streets from United to Caroline Street.

The loop also runs up Fleming and Caroline streets to allow for more parking options near stops. Although titled the Duval Loop, only two of the 16 stops will be located on Duval Street to ensure the 15-minute route can be timely and reliable for downtown workers using the service, according to Wilkins. “If we want that fast of service, we can’t go down Duval,” he said. The project is funded through last year’s $1 parking meter hike.
