It’s no joke.
Jimmy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band are putting on a free concert for about 200 lucky fans on April 1 at the San Carlos Institute theater, 516 Duval St. But, there’s a catch.
There will be no tickets for sale. Those interested in seeing the show must apply online at margaritaville.com by submitting the songs they most want to hear. Only those who apply will have a chance to win tickets to the show. Fans enter their setlists and a lottery will determine 100 first-prize winners, who will receive two tickets. A grand prize winner will receive two tickets as well as an all-expenses paid trip to Key West and backstage access to the legendary singer, and “maybe have a margarita or something” with the band, Buffett posted Monday on Facebook.
“Starting Feb. 2, we will be posting a list of 100 songs, and we’ll post it on the margaritaville website, then you get to pick the 27 songs that we will play on April Fool’s Day, live at the historic San Carlos theater in beautiful downtown Key West on Duval Street,” Buffett said.
Fans can track which songs are the most popular via the website, which will also stream video of the show. “Everyone is working to make this a super event for the San Carlos, Key West and for Jimmy Buffett,” said San Carlos board president Rafael Penalver. “It’s going to be a big production, and we’re honored to host it.”
Julie Waters, president of the Key West Parrothead Club, had a one word response regarding the show. “Phenomenal.”
