Islamorada Considers RoadSide Sculptures

Council considers sculptures, bus stop

ISLAMORADA — Roadside sculptures drew mixed reviews at the Islamorada Village Council meeting Sept. 19. “Fragments,” a set of three statues by Shiho Sato, appears to be headed for a state-owned strip of bayside land near mile marker 80 on Upper Matecumbe Key as part of the Florida Keys Sculpture Trail.

On a 3-1 vote, council members supported the placement of the large artwork on a narrow tract owned by the Florida Department of Transportation. The FDOT has endorsed the project along U.S. 1 as part of its Community Aesthetic Features program.
